Defence of the voiceless disabled.

I am speaking from experience looking after my wife and the situations we have had to endure. The daily challenges we like many disabled people need to contend with before we even leave the house. I care for my wife and work full time I’ve recently damaged the discs in my back so I have an even bigger insight of what everyday in chronic pain feels like. Luckily work have been kind and I have been able to do some work from home.

Disabled people get constantly a bad press by the media and the government. The fact is the majority of people have serious conditions. All of them would go to work tomorrow if their severe pain was gone, their conditions healed etc. The government are continually criminalising them and cutting their support. The PIP latest cuts are a shambles, the fact they question disabled people’s intellect by asking if they can plan and follow a journey is a joke, disabled people aren’t idiots just because they can plan and follow a journey doesn’t mean they can make it. Most disable people have physical conditions which is the reason they need the support. The government are making more and more trick questions spun in ways and interpreted to suit their own cuts by deliberately underscoring claimants.
Many people are losing mobility cars, social care support, transport to work and grants to help them stay in their own homes. Disability hate crime is up over 100% and suicide rates are through the roof. I hear so many of people’s stories of food banks, people starving to death etc. The NHS might even be able to help disabled people back into work by helping people resolve long standing conditions that people have been left to suffer with. Sadly the NHS is on its knees too. For example it’s taken me 3 months to see a physio for my damaged discs.

All disabled people want to be seen as human beings and equals. Treated with compassion and to be able to receive the support and care they are entitled to after paying many years of national insurance before they fell ill.

So before you join the government bandwagon of judging someone disabled. Give a little thought about how hard their daily battle is and how much harder society is making their lives by the day.

Think twice about the nonsense you get told in the news and pray that you don’t become disabled under this Tory government.
